Short Biography

Andreas Moser is Director of Advanced Recording Characterization at Western Digital. He received his Ph.D. degree in physics at the University of Basel, Switzerland, where he imaged and manipulated vortices in high-Tc superconductors using low temperature magnetic force microscopy. Since 1996, he focuses on the characterization of high-density magnetic recording media and the exploration of new recording schemes, capable of extremely high-density recording. As a research staff member at the Hitachi San Jose Research Center he worked on the recording physics of high-density perpendicular recording. Currently, directs a team to extend magnetic recording into the Tbit/in2 areal density range. Andreas Moser has authored and co-authored twenty-two patents and more than seventy technical publications in peer-reviewed journals.
